AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB Presented at the Opening of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Water and Waste Management at Lviv Polytechnic
The experience and achievements of the AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB project were presented during the official inauguration of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainable Water and Waste Management, which took place on 15 October 2025 at Lviv Polytechnic National University. The event was held within the framework of the 6th International Scientific and Technical Conference “Water Supply and Wastewater: Design, Construction, Operation and Monitoring,” gathering representatives of the UNESCO Water Family, international academic institutions, and research organisations working in the field of sustainable water and waste management.
The new UNESCO Chair was established under the UNITWIN/UNESCO Chairs Programme following an agreement signed between UNESCO and Lviv Polytechnic in May 2025. The Chair operates at the Institute of Sustainable Development named after Viacheslav Chornovil and is headed by Professor Myroslav Malovany, Doctor of Technical Sciences, who also serves as the coordinator of the AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB project. Professor Malovany presented the project as an example of successful international cooperation within the Horizon Europe framework, highlighting its contribution to strengthening research capacity, innovation, and circular bioeconomy development in widening countries.
The event also featured a presentation by Nazar Andrushchak, project manager of AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB and associate professor at the Department of Computer-Aided Design, who emphasised the importance of digitalisation and innovation management in advancing the project’s objectives. His address focused on the role of inter-institutional collaboration in promoting sustainable solutions for agriculture and the environment.
Representatives of the UNESCO Water Sciences Division (Paris), the National Commission of Ukraine for UNESCO, and several UNESCO Chairs from France, Serbia, Sweden, and Spain extended congratulations to the new Chair and expressed readiness for future cooperation. The establishment of the UNESCO Chair marks a significant milestone not only for Lviv Polytechnic but also for the broader scientific community in Western Ukraine, offering new opportunities for international partnership and dissemination of best practices in sustainable resource management.
The participation of AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB in the opening of the UNESCO Chair underscores the project’s strategic role in promoting sustainability, circular economy principles, and international scientific integration. This recognition enhances the project’s visibility within the European and global research networks, supports the creation of new synergies with UNESCO-affiliated institutions, and opens the way for joint initiatives, training programmes, and policy-oriented collaboration. The event demonstrated that the project’s outcomes are not only academically relevant but also contribute directly to shaping the future of sustainable environmental governance in Europe and beyond.
