AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB Presented at the XXXVII Scientific Session of the Shevchenko Scientific Society
On 20 March 2026, the AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB project was presented at the session of the Ecological Commission of the Shevchenko Scientific Society (NTSh), held at Lviv Polytechnic National University as part of the XXXVII Scientific Session of the NTSh. The session took place in the Zakhariyevych Hall of the main building of the university (12 S. Bandera Street, Lviv).
The session was opened with welcoming remarks by Roman Kushnir, President of the Shevchenko Scientific Society, Academician of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, and Roman Korzh, Vice-Rector for Institutional Development of Lviv Polytechnic National University.
Ivan Tymchuk, Doctor of Technical Sciences, Associate Professor at the Department of Ecology and Sustainable Nature Management of the Institute of Sustainable Development named after Viacheslav Chornovil (Lviv Polytechnic National University), delivered a presentation titled “Mechanisms for Integrating Science, Government, and Business under Global Challenges: the Case of the AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB Project.”
The presentation outlined the project’s objectives, its structure across three regional ecosystems in Poland, Latvia, and Ukraine, and the results achieved in the first year of implementation. Particular attention was given to the mechanisms through which the project connects academic institutions, businesses, public authorities, and civil society organisations in pursuit of a shared goal: advancing smart agriculture and circular bioeconomy in widening countries. The case of AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB was presented as an example of how international Horizon Europe projects can serve as a practical model for cross-sector integration under conditions of global environmental and economic challenges.
The session also included five further presentations on topics spanning ecological science and environmental management: local biological wastewater treatment systems, the floristic value of the botanical garden of the Ukrainian National Forestry University, vertical greening in Lviv, biodiversity and the evolution of life, and the impact of climate change on biodiversity and natural ecosystems in western Ukraine.
Following the presentations, a scientific discussion took place among the 22 members of the Shevchenko Scientific Society in attendance. The discussion addressed ecological challenges in the Ukraine-Poland cross-border region, reflecting the shared environmental concerns that connect communities and research institutions on both sides of the border.
The Shevchenko Scientific Society is one of the oldest and most distinguished scientific organisations in Ukraine, with a history dating back to 1873. Its annual scientific sessions bring together researchers from across disciplines to share findings, discuss current challenges, and strengthen the connections between Ukrainian science and the broader international academic community. The participation of AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB in this forum reflects the project’s commitment to engaging with Ukrainian scientific and civic institutions as a core part of its work, not only as a dissemination activity but as a genuine contribution to the national scientific discourse on sustainable development and the bio-circular transition.
AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB is funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe (Grant Agreement No. 101186869). The project connects research, innovation, and practice across Poland, Latvia, Ukraine, Belgium, and Spain to advance smart agriculture and circular bioeconomy in widening countries.
