Politechnika Częstochowska (PCz)

ABOUT THE ORGANISATION

Czestochowa University of Technology (CUT), officially known as Politechnika Częstochowska (PCz), is a prominent technical university in central Poland established in 1949. It comprises six faculties and engages in interdisciplinary education and applied research. The university is equipped with modern laboratories and pilot-scale installations for converting biowaste into bio-based, compostable, and biodegradable products. CUT is known for its active participation in H2020 projects such as Organic+ and Nutri2Cycle.

PCz also plays an important role in fostering innovation and sustainable development at the regional level, offering educational programmes across bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Its scientific and technical community includes over 550 academic staff and serves more than 5,000 students annually.

One of the key interdisciplinary research areas is valorisation of biowaste and agricultural residues and conversion into added value products such as bio-based fertilizers and bio-based, biodegradable and compostable plastics for sustainable agriculture. CUT is equipped with advanced infrastructure for thermal and biological conversion of biowaste into added value products. PCz participated in a number of projects, in particular Organic_PLUS (H2020, 2018-2022) and Nutri2Cycle (H2020, 2018-2023) which resulted in novel solutions for sustainable and circular agriculture (conventional and organic).

PCz also plays an important role in fostering innovation and sustainable development at the regional level, offering educational programmes across bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral levels. Its scientific and technical community includes over 550 academic staff and serves more than 5,000 students annually.

ROLE IN THE PROJECT

PCz leads Work Package 6 and coordinates activities related to the implementation of the regional pilot in Poland. The team provides scientific support in bio-waste valorisation, development of innovative fertilizers, and biodegradable plastic alternatives for agricultural use. They also collaborate with SMEs to validate technological innovations and contribute to interregional learning and strategy alignment.

KEY STRENGTHS
