DENR

Department of Ecology and Natural Resources is a public body responsible for the implementation of state policy and management of ecology and natural resources within the Lviv region:

• environmental protection, rational use, reproduction and protection of natural resources (land, water resources, forests, atmospheric air), flora and fauna;
• organization of environmental monitoring;
• waste management;
• creation and preservation of the ecological network, protection and development of the network of nature protected territories and facilities;
• regulation of the negative anthropogenic impact on climate change and adaptation to its changes;
• Implementation of environmental impact assessment and strategic environmental assessment;
• Informing the population about the state of the environment.

The Department provides administrative and non-administrative services.

Administrative services:

• Issuance, cancellation, re-issuance of permits for emissions of air pollutants by stationary sources to business entities whose facilities belong to groups II and III;
• Issuance of permits for special use of natural resources within the nature protected territories and facilities of national importance;
• Issuance of conclusions on environmental impact assessment for economic activities;
• Implementation of the strategic environmental assessment procedure for state planning documents.

Non-administrative services:

• Approval of individual technological standards for the use of drinking water;
• Approval of boundaries of sanitary protection zones for water bodies in areas where water is extracted for centralized water supply, medical, and recreational needs;
• Determination of background concentrations of pollutants in the ambient air;
• Publication of notifications of a business entity’s intent to obtain an emission permit for public awareness;
• Approval of lists of measures to improve the sanitary condition of forests and forestry measures within the territories and objects of the nature reserve fund;
• Approval of territorial organization projects of nature reserve fund objects/hunting farms and others.
