AREI Publishes Its 2025 Annual Report within AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB
A partner of the AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB project, the Institute of Agricultural Resources and Economics (AREI), has prepared its annual report summarizing the key activities implemented and the results achieved throughout 2025. The report highlights AREI’s contributions across research coordination, pilot-related work, and practical valorisation pathways, with a focus on solutions that support sustainability and circularity in the agri-food sector.
AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB is an integrated initiative that promotes the transition toward a bio-circular economy by advancing sustainable approaches in agriculture and the wider agri-food system. The project brings together partners working across the enlargement countries of Poland, Latvia, and Ukraine, while also benefiting from coordination and collaboration with partners in Belgium and Spain. Through joint activities, the consortium supports research and innovation, pilot development, stakeholder engagement, and knowledge exchange to strengthen regional capacities and accelerate the uptake of bio-circular solutions.
Key AREI results in 2025
- WP3 (Latvia R&I pilot): a pre-study for the Latvian R&I pilot was conducted with support from Latvian partners.
- Digestate valorisation from biogas plants (AREI, LBA, Egg Energy): first samples of pelletised digestate from cattle-manure digestate were produced; a review paper on Bacillus subtilis as an inoculant for liquid digestate was submitted.
- Biomass valorisation from farmers (AREI, ZSA, Egg Energy): first samples of two biochars (from rolled hay and low-quality silage) were produced; an abstract comparing biochar from two agricultural residues was submitted and accepted for EUBCE 2026.
- Synergies with related projects (WP8 communication): stakeholder meetings were held at the Stende research centre with the Interreg project 3F Green model (June 2025), and with Ukrainian partners from the Horizon Europe project SENS4CORN (October 2025). Participation in a meeting in Naples, Italy, together with SENS4CORN partners was also noted.
- WP2 (state-of-the-art): AREI and partners contributed to the preparation of state-of-the-art materials.
The 2025 activities demonstrate steady progress toward practical, scalable bio-circular solutions that connect research with implementation. AREI’s work contributed to strengthening the evidence base for bio-circular approaches and advancing concrete valorisation routes, including digestate-based products and biochar from agricultural residues. At the same time, collaboration with stakeholders and alignment with related European initiatives helped broaden the project’s network and support knowledge transfer across regions. These results reinforce AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB’s wider mission to accelerate sustainable innovation in the agri-food sector and to build stronger capacities for bio-circular transitions in Poland, Latvia, and Ukraine.
