AREI Holds Spring Seminar on Sustainable Agriculture and Circular Bioeconomy
The Agroresursi un Economics Institute (AREI) recently hosted its annual Spring Seminar at the Stende Research Centre, bringing together researchers, practitioners, farmers, and regional stakeholders for a full day of knowledge exchange on sustainable agriculture and circular bioeconomy. The event drew active participation and discussion, reflecting the growing interest in bio-based approaches across Latvia’s agrifood sector.
The seminar covered topics closely aligned with the strategic objectives of the AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB project, including the valorisation of agricultural by-products, circular nutrient management, biowaste treatment technologies, and the development of innovation ecosystems in rural regions. Presentations and discussions drew on both research findings and practical experience from the field, offering participants a grounded view of where the bio-circular transition stands today and where it is heading.
Events of this kind are central to how AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB approaches regional development. Building a functioning bio-circular ecosystem requires more than technology and policy — it requires ongoing dialogue between scientists, entrepreneurs, farmers, and public institutions. The Spring Seminar provided exactly this: a practical forum where knowledge moves between sectors and networks are strengthened.
AREI leads the Latvian pilot project within AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB, coordinating regional activities focused on biowaste valorisation, smart specialisation strategy development, and the commercialisation of deep-tech innovations in agriculture. The institute works alongside Egg Energy, the Commercialization Reactor, the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA), the Latvian Biogas Association, and the Farmers’ Parliament (ZSA) to build a coherent innovation ecosystem across the country.
The next event in the Latvian ecosystem calendar is the Rural Day in Dižstende on 2 July 2025 — an open gathering where the results of ongoing research and pilot activities will be shared with a broader regional audience.

AGRI-BIOCIRCULAR-HUB is funded by the European Union under Horizon Europe (Grant Agreement No. 101186869). The project connects research, innovation, and practice across Poland, Latvia, Ukraine, Belgium, and Spain to advance smart agriculture and circular bioeconomy in widening countries.
